Poor service, cold food, expensive. When we first met with Sandeep from Akbar, he was very friendly and accomodating. It seemed that Akbar would be able to provide exactly what we needed for our Indian wedding ceremony. However, he never provided us with a contract, although he said that he would. It would have been helpful to see what was included for the price we were paying, but it was very haphazard. We ended up selecting a menu of three appetizers (that were supposed to be passed around during the cocktail hour), two entrees, regular naan, onion naan, and mango lassi (that was also supposed to be passed during cocktail hour). We were required to pay for an Akbar representative to come to the location to monitor the food service. Although we communicated to Akbar that our ceremony would be starting at 11am, and our cocktail hour would be starting at 12 noon several times, Akbar prepared all appetizers to be ready at 11am. The attendant from Akbar came up to me (the bride) before I walked down the aisle saying that I apparently told them that cocktail hour was starting at 11 and now the appetizers would be soggy. Very rude. The appetizers were not passed, instead, served as a buffet. The mango lassi was not passed, instead placed in pitchers on the tables (no one knew what it was). The entrees were cold. The only reason I am giving Akbar a star is because the appetizers (although soggy) tasted pleasant. A lot of miscommunication could have been avoided with a contract. Sandeep was also very rude to me on the phone when I called to finalize the menu, saying that he could cater for a minimum of 50 guests (although at that point, I only wanted to cater for 35). This made my bill significantly more expensive AND resulted in wasted food. Again, without a contract, Akbar will have problems adhering to their "policies" going forward.
Editorial Review by Marcella Veneziale. This Long Island-based Indian restaurant serves standard fare like a variety of curries and plain or garnished naan bread.
Beautiful Decor. Beautiful decor, thoughtful service. The chef goes easy on the spices. We dined on a Tuesday evening and we had the restaurant to ourselves until 9:00 pm. At 9:00, the restaurant really filled up.
A quality establishment, indeed!.
I have been to this establishment several times for their luncheon buffet and it never disappoints me! The atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff is most cordial and attentive! There are not a lot of selections to choose from like other places which try to lure business in by using quantity over quality, but the choices are adequate and the food is always tasty and obviously made with top notch ingredients. Special mention goes out to their tandoori chicken - it's always moist and succulent! Plates are promptly cleared and water glasses are refilled the moment you empty them - really and truly A1 service.
On one visit, they served some indian sweets which they normally dont in honor of a particular holiday, and when my daughter commented on how much she liked them, the staff gave her some to take home. Same thing happened when we complimented the chef for making a phenomenal dessert - we were given a HUGE portion of it to take home - on the house!
We come from Brooklyn to eat here and it is certainly worth the trip!
No Customer Service. Had a reservation for 9:00 PM and when we arrived was told it would be a few minutes. Matrede disappeared and otjer customers arrived no one to greet them, when matrede finally came back 20 min. later had to ask what we were waiting for, he then munbeled something that it would be a little while longer and disappeared again. We then left. We eat out often and never saw such inattentive service, would never recommend this place based on that alone as we never were seated for our reservation 40 mins. later.
Amit. Nice place to go out for dinner. The service can be better though.
