Bay Shore's Hidden Gem. After living in Bay Shore, NY for three years, I moved away but never miss Winnie's.

Is Winnie's any good, you ask....Put it this way; I drive from Melville, NY nearly every weekend to eat breakfast at Winnie's in Bay Shore. On top of that, I usually eat lunch at Winnie's three times a week, on break from my job in Babylon. When my friend Jay from New Jersey comes to visit, Winnie's is always one of his requests.

Winnie's is much like ol' Cheers from TV, a friendly neighborhood establishment where most people know each other?s name. Tony, the executive chef and owner, is both personable and professional. Everything is cooked to order in plain sight using fresh local ingredients. The prices are a bargain and the food is delicious.

What to order for breakfast: any of the eggs Benedict, Irish bangers, well-done Belgium Waffles with fresh strawberries and chantille cream, or the standard Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a roll. Try their rye bread, the best around. Or go off-menu and ask for the Million Dollar French Toast (French toast coated in Rice Crispies before grilling)

For lunch, go with any of the ever changing specials; my particular favorite is the Second Avenue Favorite; sliced freshly roasted turkey breast, home-made chicken pate, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato on rye. When this special appears on the board, I order 3; 1 for lunch, and 2 for myself and a guest's dinner. Whenever possible, get your sandwich on the rye bread.

Winnies. best breakfast on long island. you have to get used to the wait--each order is cooked in turn by the owner. if you want the ultimate breakfast taste, you must order off the special board. the selections are terrific and without a doubt, the best you've ever had. Recomended: All the "benedicts" ( basic egg, arnold, and sometimes crabcake. Lunch specials are also great, especially on Fridays! The rye bread is out of this world!
