Best Food Ever! – Mazzi has been my 'go to' restaurant for a few years now. I've never experienced bad food or bad service. Their menu is great and can handle vegetarians or seafood/meat lovers. It's truly amazing the wide array of food the chef can make that tastes so good. The fish is always fresh and you can't go wrong with the pear salad and boneless short ribs. I'd give it an A+ and will definitely be going back again and again.
Good Food, Good Wine – Having eaten out a lot, I have to say that Mazzi is one of the better restaurants I've been to in the Huntington area. The menu has a pretty wide selection that anyone should be able to choose from. The chef does a great filet mignon and can actually cook it to your preference (medium-rare, medium, well-done) unlike so many other chefs. As for appetizers, the beet and pear salads are fantastic starters and in my opinion you can't go wrong with either of them. Excellent wine menu and cocktails. If you choose to sit at the bar you can count on interesting conversation with the regulars or you can have an intimate dinner at one of the more private tables. Mazzi is a great place to dine for all sorts of occassions.
Horrible Ambiance – Restaurant has an old, dirty feel to it. They need to renovate the place because upon entering there's a really bad stench and carpet is clearly very dirty. Aside from that, my wife and I witnessed uncleanliness while we were waiting at the bar. They have a curtain that leads to the kitchen that was partially opened and we witnessed the restaurant help eating out of a tub of ice cream and touching desserts with their bare hands. Food is decent but avoid the prix fixe menu. You think you're getting your money's worth when in fact you're not. Prix fixe portions are much smaller than regular sized dishes. For instance, we each ordered a glass of wine but my wife was having the prix fixe and her glass was only half full. Lastly, the owner seems to be a fake, miserable lady. My wife saw her yelling at one of her waiters. That sort of treatment makes everyone around feel uncomfortable. If possible, eat in Huntington Village or at Panama Hatties. This place doesn't deserve anyone's business.
good italian food – menu was varied for meat-eaters tastes; but i did have the one vegetarian entree - eggplant parmigana and it was pillowy and magnificent, unlike any other i've had. the salads are excellent, especially the poached pear salad. (sometimes you order a salad to just be healthy, but this one actually left me craving more). the linguine with crabmeat and shrimp was also exquisite. in general i think they have an excellent chef who really knows how to make a great italian dish.
the atmosphere is warm, cozy and inviting. great lighting (dim and romantic).
areas that could use some improvement: the bread was less than desirable, dry and bland. the coffee could have been brewed stronger (and served with cream, not milk). they did not bring us a wine list, which left the members of my party confused as to what to order. when we asked for a wine selection they rattled off a list of wines by the glass. when another friend joined us later, the waitress abbreviated the list for him - causing him to only choose from 3 different wines (and not telling him the brands, just the type of wine). for such a nice place, they could have provided us a wine list ( i mean it even has valet parking).
other than that, one little mishap was when the man filling our water glasses put a bunch of plain water and ice in my Pellegrino. i told him, and he promptly got me a new glass of sparkling water - but it was bar tap sparkling water. I am a Pellegrino afficionado and i know the taste of Pellegrino. i was a little upset that he tried to push off bar tap sparkling water on me.
dessert was good. the apple crumb was so-so, but the flavored gelatos that come with the non-alacarte dessert items are wonderful! definitely worth getting the extra scoop of gelato.
