"A" NUMBER ONE!!!. Best rib eye steak on the east end...5 stars! ambience and great hamptons village location..indoor/outdoor seating..fun atm9sphere too..my favorite!
Fabbb. Have a real hard time believing McDoodle...The Candy Kitchen is not open in the evening....this sounds like someone trying to pull business away from a very good established restaurant to a place they either work or own...or do they have a personal problem with the chef or owner? The food is always excellent...and if some thing goes wrong as it does it all restaurants...they are always happy to address the situation..one of the best steaks I ever had!!!!!
mmm mmm good.. definitely my favorite brunch spot in the hamptons. i love coming here for brunch with family members. their eggs benedict is so delectable. for lunch i always get their filet mignon chilli. great decor, friendly and informative staff, and super location. everytime i eat at this fresh spot i feel the history of the restaurant and the hamptons all in one. with their open windows, it is the best way to soak up the hamptons on that early saturday or sunday morning watching the craziness on montauk hwy. when i think of my summers in the hamptons, mornings at bobby van's come to mind. although i have only gone to bobby van's for dinner once, their spot is mature and comforting and packed at night. great place to get some wine and have some conversation.
Bobby Van's NO Lobster Night. NO Lobster Night @ Bobby Van's...On Tuesday 8/21/07 my wife, son and I decided to try Lobster Night at Bobby Van's however at 8:00 they were all out and kept pushing some "lobster cocktail" or 2# Lobster tails. Upon our departure we made a reservation for the following Tuesday but, at their recommendation, early to be certain we got lobsters. At 6:45 on the following Tuesday I was informed I had to hold 2 lobsters for my wife & son; after ordering wine & drinks I ordered a steak w/ bearnaise sauce. The bearnaise came after the steak was 1/2 finished and was ICE cold. After being charged $2 for this offensive Bearnaise the server tried twice in vain to get the charge removed, the chef refused & explained "don't I know anything? it is supposed to be served at room temperature" which would have been welcome compared to the cool whip style sauce he served. After owning and operating restaurants and being involved in the industry for 30 years I am entitled to my opinion agree or not! We paid the check and left after this underwhelming meal. Chef Jim Stella, unhappy with my opinion of his lame explanation, felt the need to chase me, my wife and son down the street where he verbally "Freaked Out" on me while I was on the phone waiting for my son's milk shake at Candy Kitchen. When he took a breath I reminded him that "he is a cook and should return to the kitchen and do so" at which point I shared with him that "I was sure he was simply doing the best he could with how he was raised" As the "chef" ranted and raved he was dismissed and went "wigging out" mumbling back to his kitchen where he is best suited to stay. Next time you try "Bobby Van's No Lobster Night" be prepared to order something other than lobster and keep your guard up if you see the "chef" approaching!
An East End institution where the gossip and steaks sizzle all summer..
The Scene
For many years Bobby Van's was a hazy late-night chophouse frequented by literary boulevardiers like Truman Capote and Irwin Shaw. Several years ago the place got a sunny sprucing up--grass-paper walls and arching skylights--and it now could be mistaken for many other Hamptons hot spots. The bar is still a rakish scene, though. In the early evening, when low clouds are spectacularly backlit by the setting sun and cool ocean breezes waft along Main Street, you don't want be anywhere else.
The Food
You can still get a fine steak here, well-aged and beefy. Vegetables are treated with respect, never overcooked and always well seasoned. Seafood can be recommended as well, like the moist and crispy crab cakes and the rare-cooked sesame-crusted tuna with ponzu sauce. Desserts are unmemorable, so you might elbow you way to the bar for a nightcap.
